Quarantine

News had a way of spreading a little too quickly. The moment Nathan had fallen at the press conference, media began having it's field day. Mohinder paid little attention.

He arrived at Odessa fourteen hours after the incident, severely jet-lagged and with a computer pre-loaded with all of the information that the Company thought he'd need. Mohinder had been down this road before, though never with such dire circumstances. The Shanti Virus was a subject near and dear to his heart, though it was far less stressful when all he needed to cure it was a bit of blood. Even though it was his own blood, at least he felt as if he was doing something.

Knowing from experience that not everything was black and white anymore, Mohinder kept his laptop and medical kit close at hand and made his way to the quarantine line with a grim look in his redrimmed black eyes. "Mohinder Suresh," he said, forgetting his title again for just a moment. "Doctor. You need to let me through."

The National Guard service man looked wary before radioing it in through the barricade. It was tense. Mohinder's shoulder bag slipped twice and he nearly dropped his sample kit. "All right, cleared to go in. Good luck, doctor."

Mohinder nodded, rubbing the back of his neck. He'd gone from New York to India and back again in two days, bringing Molly to stay with his mother. After what Sylar did to her, again, he could not risk leaving her in anyone else's care. Not with Matt gone.

Seeing the man, however, after he'd just gone off on this quest to find his father at the expense of helping him with a child they both sort of promised to look out for, did not make Mohinder smile. If anything, it only made the lines on his face etch in more deeply. He stood in front of him, looking as tired as Mohinder felt, ill fitting clothing a bit more rumpled than usual. Never mind, of course, that Mohinder had done his fair share of leaving too on his attempts to bait the Company through lectures across the globe. "Do I have a lab yet?" Mohinder asked. No greetings. No necessities. That's what happens when you abandon people, Matt.

"You're probably going to want to stay away from Doctor Suresh."  Fury, in all of his all-black glory, comes at them from around a corridor as Tony finally manages to catch up with the charging bull that is his, thankfully, not so currently green friend.  He does hold a hand up behind Bruce's back to try to signal Fury to move but, alas.  The Director never was good at listening.

You can't blame that on the missing eye or anything but Tony likes to think he has mini eye patches inside his ears too.

"In fact, I'm absolutely sure of it.  We need to get a baseline reading on you, Doctor Banner."

Torchwood is exciting, the way that it had once been in New York when he'd been hunted by Company and by a serial killer posing as a friend in horribly lame band t-shirts.  Mohinder's move from Company heel and Noah Bennet's lapdog back to the UK (the only place he'd felt safe to bring Molly where she would be able to understand the language and still be away from the mess in America) to Torchwood agent had happened as they usually did.

Jack courted him.  Mohinder refused until refusing became impossible.  And that's why he finds himself here, standing in the so called Red Zone, around a theme park with the less than illustrious name of "Figmentation Imagination Exploration World!" scrolled across the metal sign in large, person sized letters over the box office queuing area.

He glances over at the lanky Scotsman he is almost always paired with and the pair of chain cutters he's currently failing with at the gate.  A sigh and Mohinder adjusts the earpiece he's wearing.  "Captain, still having a bit of trouble with the front gate.  We should be inside in about an hour at this rate."  He's only half teasing though he can hear Owen's voice saying something irately in the background.

History: Here

Personality:

Mohinder is a professor and a geneticist from Chennai, India. He has a doctorate in parapsychology and use to teach evolutionary genetics at the University of Madras. He had always attempted to follow in his father's footsteps, trying to get recognition for his own work while building off of his own father's research into the evolution of human beings through genetic mutations that would allow them to access special powers or abilities. Mohinder and his dad had a very rocky relationship which seems to have stemmed from the death of his older sister. When Shanti got sick with an unknown virus, Mohinder was conceived to produce antibodies for her. Though he was born with those antibodies, it was too late to save Shanti. This caused his father's coldness towards him.

Despite Mohinder's clash with his father, who had run off to America to try and find evolved human beings to support his book sometime after Mohinder gained tenure at his university, he still defended him and his work. When he was told that his father died, Mohinder even went so far as to take a leave of absence from his teaching position, and went off to New York City to discover why his dad was killed and to unlock his father's code on the way to find more people with abilities. This shows how much Mohinder longed to be accepted by his father and forms the basis for later daddy issues he encounters in New York.

Mohinder is a born skeptic, as any good scientist ought to be. Though he does believe his father's theories about evolved humans and super powers, he needs to see them for himself, first hand. He is quick to dismiss other people at first that claim to have powers but can't or have trouble with reproducing them. Conversely, he is also extremely gullible and easy to dupe. Over and over again, Mohinder's want-it-to-be-true nature has gotten him into trouble. He rarely stops to think through certain situations and is caught up in the plots of others because he feels himself powerless to do anything else. Despite all of his book smarts, Mohinder rarely shows signs of having common sense.

Mohinder has an inflated sense of morality. Though he is sometimes forced to do things outside of his comfort zone, more often than not, he rebels when pushed too far even if that gets him injured. He tries to be heroic and though he is far from cowardly, he is very easy to spook. He can be annoyingly persistent at times and is willing to drop his entire life for causes he believes in with very little provocation.

That said, Mohinder finds it very hard to forgive people that have wronged him. Though he is a religious man (the Hindi faith does not conflict with science as some monotheistic belief systems do), he also embraces revenge. Mohinder can be as cruel as he is kind and generally takes it upon himself to deal with his problems (and usually in somewhat stupid ways that puts him into more danger than it is likely worth). He gets very focused and sometimes can refuse to see reason.

Though Mohinder has had long term relationships, and actively accepts romances, he has never been married and is childless. His research and work always comes first.

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:

Mohinder is a normal human being with no evolved abilities (though he does retain antibodies for a strain of a virus that effects evolved humans in his blood). He is a professor and a geneticist. The former makes him fairly knowledgeable about many subjects and gives him a passion for soliloquies and lectures. The latter doesn't really afford him a skill set that he can use outside of a lab or in a practical setting other than his own universe, however, but it does give him skill to draw blood, prepare slides, and work lab equipment. He is academically minded and very intellectual, though he does seem to fail when it comes to common sense. Mohinder is extremely adept at taking people at face value, given what they are saying is something he wants to hear. He is more or less tri-lingual, speaking both Hindi and English fluently and knowing French to get by. Mohinder is a vegetarian out of respect to his mother's religion, though he will from time to time consume fish. His diet may be his biggest weakness depending on how stores are stocked. His greatest strength and weakness, however, is his morality. Mohinder's moral compass always points true north, which sometimes is at odds with the situation or with what he may be forced to do. He has no trouble believing in the greater good, but acting on it is sometimes impossible for him.

Network/Action Spam Sample:
[Mohinder's hands shake as he flips through the only website his phone seems capable of accessing: a bulletin board filled with strange and confusing things. The feeling seeing the posts gives him makes him shudder.]

[He decides to add something, via text, to this website.]

[Sender: M.Suresh] Where am I? Where is this?

[And now he's got a choice. Wait for a reply? Or go out to explore?]

Prose Log Sample:
Mohinder longed for nothing more than to follow in his father's footsteps. He seemed to actually be managing that quite well now that he had gone out for his first chance at field work. Meeting Zane Taylor had been an exercise in suspension of disbelief and a lot of courage (and stupidity). Those were qualities that Mohinder found himself really very capable of maintaining despite having been shot at, his research almost destroyed, and believing himself to be tracked by his father's killer. Eden was dead now, though she had been invaluable in his work and he wished that she could have been here with him now as he waited at the door in Virginia for Zane to answer.

He was nothing like Mohinder expected from their phone conversation that morning. He was calm, a little bit on the squirely side, but very tall and quite handsome, as far as men tended to go. The old rock and roll t-shirt seemed out of place on him. His hair style even more so. Mohinder bit his tongue.

And he had to bite it again when Zane showed him what he could do. Disrupting the bonds between molecules and 'melting' objects with a touch? Oh, it was so very dangerous. A power like that, perhaps, could kill. And yet, Zane had perfect control over it. They had tea together and decided to travel the country, seeking out people just like Zane. Mohinder had the algorithm worked out now, didn't he? He knew the mapped portions of the genome that showed the mutation to allow powers.

And so, off they went, towards Montana of all places to visit someone named Dale. A mechanic. Mohinder would never get there, though. One minute, he and Zane were pulled over in a parking lot by a diner, the other man having run in to get them both a cup of coffee to go and to use the bathroom, and the next?

Well Mohinder didn't know. He sat up slowly, still dressed in his jeans and his brown, lined wool coat. Nothing seemed recognizable and it made his flesh crawl.  Did they get to him?  Oh God!

"H-hello?" No answer. "Zane?!"

Mohinder's just realizing Eirikur is Loki.

So he hides in Peter Guillam's bed.

Mohinder watched Peter Petrelli disappear into the endless hallway.  Why is he back?

Handy's shrunk himself!  Just...not in the Honey I Shrunk The Kids kinda way.  Elle too!  And Peter Petrelli!

Mohinder tries to be a scientist in a world that doesn't make sense.

House sort of kidnaps his attention.  For science!

Hanging out with House is fun.  He gets to swab Kenzi and Loki next.  Still on sandwich duty though.

He spends time with Handy.  He's present briefly for Tony's death to come and tell House that Jacob's died too.  He works with Castiel on his diagnosis and then with Logan on his blood.  Bruce Banner dies shortly after and Mohinder is faced with that big green monster.  He finally realizes why Bruce said he couldn't be with him...  And he also realizes that he doesn't care about it.

Handy bans Mohinder from calling him Handy.  Rabbit needs some help.  And the Hulk is sneezing.

After Castiel leaves Jimmy and Mohinder gets himself outraged over angels, he so very smartly goes to talk to Gabriel about it.  After Gabriel doesn't kill him for the manhandling, Mohinder goes off to pout only to have Bruce come back to himself.  He brings him food and clothing and when he returns, his door has been vandalized by a crude grafitti artist.

Someone's come back to life.  A lot has changed in two months.  Mohinder reconnects with Peter, Handy and Gabriel.  Laura apologizes.  Donna chides him for breaking her son's heart.  Bruce Banner brings a taste of home by speaking Hindi with him.  He makes a sandwich for Gabriel who dupes him into thinking that Ivy is a goblin.  Oh dear.

Mohinder meets Haldir.  And accidentally tells the elf his ears are round.  And then has coffee with Bigby.  He says too much.  As he always does.

After starting on some pasta for Elle, she lets it slip that she heard Loki killed Sylar, likely because Loki doesn't want anyone with Kenzi.  That is pretty terrifying because Peter Gilliam is good friends with Kenzi and Mohinder is now afraid for his life.  He makes a post on the network about Bad Things That May Happen and Bigby comes to the rescue....  But won't take him seriously.

The voices remind Mohinder that he's an idiot, gullible, and easily used.  This does not a Happy Mohinder make.

Bruce asks him for a science and blood test date.  Mohinder accepts and they flirt.  After Tony forgets all about his plans with Bruce, Bruce comes knocking at Mohinder's door.  Good choice.  Makeouts occur.

Mohinder goes to movie night too and chats with Handy, Bruce, and Zoey.

Eirik's found something foul.  Mohinder goes for samples.

And Barton's figured out that there's only one name not on that slam book...Mohinder's.

He offers Bigby his help with the hex bag situation, tells Sam that all of his blood screenings are coming back as O negative...which is strange.  Even the animal blood in the hex bags are human and O neg.

Bruce tells Mohinder that he can't be with him.  It has to do with the Hulk but Mohinder asks if there's someone else and Bruce is honest.  He leaves heartbroken only to go to Peter for comfort and realize that Peter's been hiding his own secret all along.  How could they have known each other for months and how could he never have seen that Peter loved him?

The test results are in...only one person tested had o negative blood before the mess -- though there are unaccounted for people not tested as well.  Mohinder tells Sam all about it.

A rag covered in blood from Grace Barlow's room gets tested and seals her fate as the witch.

He gets caught outside with the Hulk but Diana saves him...only to reveal that she's a vampire.  Understandably, he's camera shy about that.  Martha has to go poking through.

Ivy yells at him and is rude over the greenhouse so Mohinder, dejected, feels out areas he might be useful in.

Continuation of the Heroes cast from [livejournal.com profile] a_facility before the switch from LJ to DW.

Mohinder doesn't remember falling asleep. He doesn't remember the transition between tucking Molly in for the evening and trying to cater to Sylar as well so that he didn't feel left out or making sure that Elle was all right and safe. He groans as he pushes himself up from what is obviously asphalt and blinks.

Asphalt. Here. Why?

The smell of smoke, of burning sky and broken concrete fills Mohinder's lungs as he gets slowly to his feet. This is not like a normal test. F3s have never been like this before, switching from one setting to another. And this is...familiar. Sort of. He gazes upwards as paper falls from blasted out windows of office buildings.

This is New York. New York City. New York as it would have been a year ago if Peter had not been whisked into the sky by his brother.

Did that mean that he was home? And if so...what sort of home had he returned to?

Mohinder's trying to be helpful.  AKA: stupid.  He converses with Rebekah about missing daggers and promised to keep a look out for it.  He then shows off the garden in the green house.  People...are not...impressed.  What's with the radish hate folks?

After the party, in which he missed the zombie attack because he was with John Kenway getting it on drinking blood being awesome, Mohinder asks for Sylar's help with a friend of a friend.  Handy's friend Donna needs her brain looked at.

Now guess who's arrived?  Peter?  Yes.  Poor man.

And Peter Guillam inquires after their radish children.  They go to see the doctor when Mohinder's being stupid about the sunlight.  And he collapses and goes comatose.

But then he's back and Peter, Laura and Handy comfort him when John Kenway refuses to answer him at all.

He meets Lexi, a very nice...err...person.

During the Shoggoth invasion, it seems like Damon is trying to get John Kenway killed.  Mohinder is not happy.  He discovers that Sylar isn't gone like Matt!  But Sylar's not happy with him.  He gets some comfort from John Kenway.  And then offers Peter Guillam a peace offering after crying over the network at him.  They have a dance and it's back to John.  One thing leads to some blood sharing which leads to a kiss and...

Well, the rest will come later.  While Mohinder's at the cafe at the library, Laura accosts him about genetics a few days later.  And Elle makes it back.

Not long after, Mohinder finds some seeds and wants to start a garden!  Gabriel actually makes him a greenhouse!  Martin stresses over...everything...and Mohinder offers to teach him Hindi.  Peter is beautiful and lovely.  And John Kenway proves he has body image issues.

A little attack leaves people dead and Mohinder works on the toxicology with Handy.

Mohinder should never be a plumber.  He doesn't know how to turn off the water before he goes in after his ring.  Handy manages to get fixed, finds the ring and then has pizza with Mohinder and tells him what it's like to be a clone.  Kenzi also gets Mohinder some dry clothes with a lot of flirting, he touches base with Elle and Gabriel offers him a solution to the gallons-of-water-in-the-bathroom issue.

Afterwards, he answers a call from John Kenway.  Silly thing.  He ends up as dinner and then is forced to forget by the hypnotic older vampire.  Sylar quickly figures out what happened by touching Mohinder's coat, which leads Mohinder to spend the first night on his sofa and the second nearly getting shot by Matt Parkman.  He manages to attend a little dream session with Sam and Donna in the meantime.

The very next day, Mohinder bumps into John Kenway again and let's him know how unhappy he is with being a snack!  He ends up being curious about being a future snack... AND makes friends with the old man.  Something's wrong here!

Handy's taken to making bagel pizzas.  Mohinder is sure it has to do with luring sheep people.  Either way?  Good distraction.

He meets up with John Kenway for coffee and a chat at the library, discovers he can turn into a bird, and happily decides he is the most awesome person ever.  He has a chat with Gabriel after about his blood, his status as a pixie, and the other usual stuff.

A monster attacks!  And Mohinder hides in his bathroom.  And chats to Peter Gilliam!
seekevolution: (scared - brown coat over shoulder gasp w)
After returning from dropping Molly off at the airport, Mohinder finds himself in Arkham!  He gets into contact with Elle and meets Kenzi. He also gets a glimpse of a lot of really creepy things outside...and thinks he saw Sylar.  But that's not possible!

Mohinder starts trying to make contact with others while stuck in the bathroom.  Lestrade is one of the unfortunates...and so is poor Saki.

After having a very awkward conversation with Matt, he has an even more awkward one with Sylar.

Mohinder goes to meet with Jack about an amulet.  He has another chat with Sylar and then one with Mycroft.  After, he has dinner with Matt.

And wakes up after a few days with the amulet having a terrible nightmare.  Sylar gives him a call and Kenzi comes over with milk and cookies and general hotness.

Sometime later, Sherlock offers people a theory about the creatures from his research and Mohinder, wanting a specimen, joins Sylar and Sherlock in doing some additional creature-sample testing on the polyp.

Finally, Matt's having a bad time being a telepath in a den of crazies.

Oh, look, Mohinder meets a very old Vampire indeed: John Kenway.  He somehow gets himself a good night sleep out of it, so there's that.  Sylar, however?  Not so good on the dreams at all.  Mohinder's going to open up a babysitting business.
seekevolution: (dark - point gun stare)
Mohinder's discovered the donuts.  He speaks with Alex S and makes a new friend.  Elle is bringing sexy back and Mohinder misses her terribly.  Sylar is going to seek out Charles for help, and Riku stops in for a chat too while he gathers supplies.  Gabriel pops in as well to have a discussion about his abilities.  Mohinder agrees to cook for him.  He leaves some out for Sylar too.

And then comes an awkward post from Sylar...who isn't Sylar.  Mohinder is ultimately disappointed by what he learns, hope not quite there in the time it will take for Sylar to control his hunger.

Mohinder chats to Castiel a bit about ghosts too.

And finally, Molly.  Because honestly, fuck his life.

Peter tries to antagonize him with a message to Mohinder about how he and Elle are sharing a room and Mohinder crushes his faciliberry.

Mohinder leaves food for Sylar and eventually drags him home.  They accidentally fall asleep on the couch.  Molly is not happy to wake up to her boogeyman in the room.  Mohinder reaches out to the other Sylar for advice.
seekevolution: (dark - point gun stare)
Mohinder's been canon update to season 3.  He's just given himself a shot of a serum derived from Maya's blood.  Upon waking, Elle calls for him and he invites her over.  Time to learn his new powers.

Sylar can't stand to be near him, so Mohinder takes his things and leaves.  Mohinder has a tiny chat with Sam Winchester in the mean time.

That lasts all of...oh.  3 hours.  Made up, Peter comes for a visit.  And Mohinder runs for his life.  And then there's an epic battle in which Elle breaks up with Mohinder.

And Mohinder works out his ahem...frustrations...on Sylar.

An attempt to apologize to Elle doesn't go well.  He chats with Justin too about Elle's spelling and Superman's offered to help him with his signing.
seekevolution: (dark - grin creepy smirk happy)
Mohinder's done being dead.  Riku comes to his aid.  Yukina and Riku Replicant offer help as well.

Elle brings mistletoe for kissing shenanigans.

And then Mohinder seeks out Milla for a chat.
seekevolution: (happy - laughing behind fist)
Mohinder can't sleep.  Thanks Val.  He talks a bit to Sylar though and they get to know each other.

And then Elle teaches him sign language.

Grell's out for some Indian blood.

"And the way I can feel you...its...I never want to lose that."

Mohinder wakes with a start and stares up at the ceiling. Those weird dreams again. They need to stop. They're starting to affect his ability to do his job. Well, not that he'd slept much these five years since Sylar blew up. The alarm goes off a moment later and he pulls himself to his feet.

Another day in the lab. Another report due. A meeting with the president that afternoon? He'd have to check his schedule.

He's in the shower when he gets the call. That meeting with the president? Moved up to a breakfast briefing. Mohinder groans and slips on a silver and lapis lazuli ring before he heads down to the waiting limo.

Sylar helps Mohinder with his wings.  They're white with pale gray speckles around the edges.

Unfortunately, he left Xavier's room a bloody mess.

Mohinder decides he needs to talk to Sylar and Elle about his feelings for them.  It goes soooo well.
